Yin Yang

What’s your YIN? What’s your YANG?

Before I share my thoughts about Yin and Yang in our lives, please have a look into the doodle art of yin yang i have made.

History of Yin & Yang

This is one of the oldest Chinese philosophy and culture in and around 3rd century BCE. It was always believed that YIN and YANG was born from the creation of Universe. It was always believed white dot in black area and black dot in the white area always portrayed the coexistence and unity of the opposites. The black half of the symbol is called as Yin and the white half is Yang. As per the philosophy there are different interpretations of Yin and Yang for different people.

What does it mean for me?

Where did I first encounter about yin and yang? Mmm...I guess when I was learning mandarin in an international school in Malaysia in my 5th grade. How did I encounter? Mmm..yes, We were asked to conduct a play and the theme was Yin Yang. Back then, I was clueless about what it’s all about. I just followed the script and enacted the whole play. The play was all about how a man can be good and bad by his or her actions at the same time in a particular situation. And the moral of the play was no matter whatever you do in life sorrow and happiness or positive and negative go hand in hand, and never judge a person without understanding both sides of the person.

But you know what intrigued me the most? It’s the SYMBOL! It’s kinda trippy for me!

My encounter to yin yang became more relatable once I started playing badminton. This phase actually made me feel the joy and happiness of winning a tournament and also made me feel the pain and sorrow behind a defeat. In the course of developing the player in me, there are many things I have had to sacrifice many things be it the lifestyle, food, fun and what not. Despite of the loss, it has always helped me in becoming a better badminton player, win more tournaments and most importantly be a better person.

Another instance where I can relate this topic to our daily life is with this interesting question which we students face in our placement days very often. This question purely talks about the Yin and Yang of the individual. And the question is,

What are your strengths and weakness?

I am 100% sure all of us can relate this situation to that of yin and yang. I also prefer answering this question in my interviews.

Lockdown Yin Yang

Don’t you think lockdown period also made us feel this unique combination of happiness and sorrow at the same time. At one end, we are happy about able to spend more time with our family members, able to explore new talents of our own, more ME TIME of course.., improving your existing skills, playing amazing video games and what not?? At the same time, we also have felt bad about not able to party with friends, go out and roam like a gazelle, missing college (initially I personally was not sure, but as time passed, I really miss my college), Oh how I can’t forget this.. Connectivity Issues.

I am damn sure that all my IBS Colleagues miss their Hostel Rooms, Caterpillar, Courtyard, Chai joy ki classic chai...Pizza paratha of SHIVANI, Tanki, uffff....I can’t say more..I may cry.

Haven’t you all encountered good and bad times, happiness or sadness, love or hate, strength or weakness etc. etc. etc. at some point of your life.? Think about it. I would love to know more about how you all relate yin yang to your daily lifestyle.
